Up close with Judge Emelia Sunkutu
SHE became an advocate at the tender age of 23.
Her first experience was quite a challenge, standing before honourable justices who thought her too young.
But determined as she was, Emelia Phiri Sunkutu is now one of the High Court Judges whose appointments were recently ratified by Parliament and sworn-in by by the Republic President in March this year. She has since been posted to serve at Lusaka High Court.

Section 3(1) of the Commissioners of Courts Act Chapter 33 of the Laws of Zambia, provides for the Registrar of the High Court, every Deputy Registrar of the High Court and every Magistrate as ex-officio Commissioners for Oaths.
Section 7 of the Act provides for the duties of the Sheriff. These duties are (1) To recieve and execute all writs and process originating from courts;(2) To serve summons and other documensts (local or foreign); (3) To conduct auction sales of seized goods by the Sheriff or auction goods on behalf of institutions or individuals intending to sell their property.
